Santiago Cabrera at New York Comic Con

Santiago attended the Star Trek: Picard panel at New York Comic Con on October 5th 2019.  In addition Sir Patrick Stewart debuted a new Star Trek: Picard trailer during the panel at Madison Square Garden.

It was also announced that the highly anticipated series will premiere on CBS All Access in the U.S. on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020. Following the premiere, new episodes of Star Trek: Picard’s 10-episode first season will be available weekly on Thursdays, exclusively for CBS All Access subscribers in the U.S, and weekly on Fridays for international viewers watching on Amazon Prime.

On the panel were showrunner Alex Kurtzman, the show’s various executive producers, writer Michael Chabon, and actors Sir Patrick Stewart (Jean-Luc Picard), Isa Briones (Dahj), Santiago (Cristobal “Chris” Rios), Michelle Hurd (Raffi Musiker), Alison Pill (Dr. Agnes Jurati), Harry Treadaway (Narek) , and Evan Evagora (Elnor).

Santiago said that his character ‘is ex-Starfleet and due to some traumatic events in his past in relation to Star Fleet he has stepped away from it so is very reticent to take on Picard when its proposed to him by his friend Raffi (Michelle Hurd).  What’s really fun about not just my character but everyone is that we are a band of misfits in a certain way…a kind of a motley crew as we like to call ourselves….I’m the captain of La Sirena and on the ship he comes on board with these people and many things ensue, as you can imagine with this kind of band.  It’s just a great group dynamic that goes in a lot of mainly different directions.’  When asked what does he think the fans will be most surprised about?  (Santiago) ‘How these things come together, and different kinds of relationships come out of it, in terms of my character what his past was in relation to in terms of Star Fleet, why the going against Picard in the beginning, the nature of that, the pieces will come together…it’s just great story telling.’

The full panel can be viewed here starting from around 1 hour 20 minutes.

Star Trek: Picard New Trailer

A new trailer was introduced by Sir Patrick Stewart.  As with the previous teaser trailer, Star Trek: Picard catches up with Jean-Luc years after his time spent captaining the Enterprise on his family vineyard in France when he’s alerted to a new threat by a mysterious young woman. Returning to Starfleet, he meets resistance and so decides to strike out on his own. But not before he seeks out some old friends (including Jonathan Frakes’ Will Riker and Marina Sirtis’ Deanna Troi) for advice and recruiting some new faces for this unexpected return to space.

Due to rights issues and geoblocking there are two versions of the same trailer.  The CBS All Access US version is directly below followed by the Amazon Prime international version:

Star Trek: Picard Season 2 already in development

During an interview with TrekCore, Star Trek: Picard executive producer Alex Kurtzman confirmed he’s already working on the show’s second season. “Definitely,” Kurtzman said of his plans for the show’s future. “Already in the works.”  The first season of Star Trek: Picard wrapped production in late August.  Sir Patrick Stewart suggested in a previous interview that filming on the second season of Star Trek: Picard may begin in March 2020. “I am not giving up my stage work, though it may have to wait for now because there are three projects that I have finished, two films and the TV series, which all need promotion. So I am clearing the decks for that and then there is also the possibility of a second Picard series filming in March next year.”
