‘Ema’ at Venice Film Festival
‘Ema’, Santiago’s movie project with director Pablo Larrain, is to have its world premiere in competition at the 76th Venice Film Festival. The festival runs from August 28th through to 7th September 2019. With a screenplay by Guillermo Calderón and Alejandro Moreno, it also stars Mariana Di Girolamo, Cristian Suares, Gael García Bernal and Paola Giannini.
Ema is a Chilean spanish-language drama about a couple dealing with the aftermath of an adoption gone awry. Ema, a talented dancer (Mariana Di Girolamo) sets out on a quest to reset her life after a shocking incident upends her family life and marriage to a tempestuous choreographer (Gael García Bernal).

Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) announced the first titles to be screened as galas or special presentations in 2019, which includes a titles directed by Latin American filmmakers, including Ema. Larraín’s film will be screened in its North American premiere, following the world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. TIFF runs from September 5th to September 15th in Toronto, Canada.
‘Ema’ Sales deal with The Match Factory
As revealed exclusively by ScreenDaily ahead of its premiere at Venice Film Festival, Ema has been boarded by Cologne-based sales outfit The Match Factory. CAA is handling the North America sale. Director Pablo Larrain said he was “excited to be working with one of the most interesting companies in the film world”, while The Match Factory’s Michael Weber added that he has been a “long-time admirer of Pablo Larraín’s work”.
