As reported in Deadline, Variety , Hollywood Reporter and other industry press, Santiago is to co-star in the new ‘Star Trek’ Jean-Luc Picard series on CBS All Access, reuniting with Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout and CBS Studios for a co-starring role opposite Patrick Stewart. Michelle Hurd is being reunited with CBS TV Studios after playing one of the title roles in the studio’s CBS pilot Cagney and Lacey last season.
The Picard Star Trek series is executive produced by Alex Kurtzman, James Duff, Akiva Goldsman, Patrick Stewart, Michael Chabon, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth, with Aaron Baiers of Secret Hideout serving as co-executive producer.
Hanelle Culpepper will direct the first two episodes of the series, making her the first woman to direct a pilot or debut episode of a Starfleet series in the franchise’s 53-year history. Jonathan Frakes is also on board to direct at least one episode of the new series, reuniting the The Next Generation pair. The first 10-episode season has been pencilled in for a late 2019 premiere date. The show will air exclusively on CBS All Access in the United States and will be distributed concurrently internationally by CBS Studios International.
