Santiago Cabrera’s Musketeers best 2016 TV list

Digital Spy, the influential British TV website and blog, recently named Santiago Cabrera’s Musketeers one of the best of 2016 TV.

The show’s  ‘marvelous’ finale was praised and Series 3, which aired in spring of 2016, was singled out as the strongest series to date.  The Musketeers produced by BBC and BBC America aired for three seasons (30 episodes) between 2014-2016. Santi played what many fans consider to be the definitive version of Aramis in the stunning BBC swashbuckling drama. The show received great reviews despite not having a regular schedule for airing dates during 2015 and 2016.

About The Musketeers:

In a retelling of Dumas pere’s classic, law and order is more an ideal than a reality in 17th-century Paris. Athos (Tom Burke), Porthos (Howard Charles) and Aramis (Santiago Cabrera) are the best soldiers in the king’s regiment but are far more than just bodyguards. Committed to upholding justice, the Musketeers face an on-going battle to maintain order. The trio is soon joined by feisty young swordsman D’Artagnan (Luke Pasqualino), who seeks the murderer of his father. Together they must protect against all forces determined to sabotage the Musketeers and their homeland.

Santiago Cabrera (Aramis) and Ryan Gage (King Louis) visit the late King’s grave site disguised as pilgrims in Ep. 6 of Season 3.

The fandom for Santiago is still going strong on Twitter and Instagram.

Digital Spy said this regarding their awarding the show one of the top television programs in 2016:

“Family-friendly drama series are increasingly an endangered species on British television, with Doctor Who one of the few remaining examples of the form. It’s also a genre that’s spectacularly difficult to get right… Mourn then for The Musketeers, which bowed out this year – despite being shuffled all around the schedules. This stirring swashbuckler delivered its strongest series to date and wrapped things up with a marvellous finale. This show was always underrated and underestimated, but never more so than in 2016.”
